The Daintree Eco Lodge and Spa

Wednesday, July 22, 2009

We made the 2 hour drive along the northeast coast and saw beautiful beaches with rainforest on the left tumbling into the ocean. Our guide Juan, gave us a nice history lesson along the way and he also greeted us with scented towels and cool water to drink from his cooler. He is part aboriginal, and a variety of other cultures thrown in and an all around great guy. He pointed out various sites of interest along the highway and then took us to our cabin when we arrived.

The cabins were perched on stilts in the rainforest near a waterfall. We immediately sighned up for the "Walbul Walbul (Butterfly treatment), which you can read about on their web sit at: Daintree Eco Lodge and Spa

http://www.daintree-ecolodge.com.au/

Their spa is one of the top 20 in the world and is in fact, number 13 on that list! We got the tour of the facilities, the oils and scents to be used, the vichy shower, etc. After looking over the gardens and the grounds, we headed for our 2 hour treatment that left me more relaxed than I have been in my entire life!

After the treatement the gardens were lit by solar lights and tropical sounds of the rainforests. The bush turkeys and swamp hens were having a great time making all kinds of noises in the dark. Our dinner was right on the water next to a small waterfall and pond on a small wooden porch. The dinner looked more like an art form than food. Kris had the baramundi fish and I had the kangaroo which was on a delicious bed of corn sized couscous flavored wtih local herbs and spices.

Today we have to check out, but I was still admiring all of the aboriginal art work for sale hanging on the walls and decorating the tables. There was a Bulji (dilly bag) made by Wilma Walker in 1999 that took her 3 days to weave hanging next to our canopy bed. These were used for every day gathering of bush tucker and poisonous foods. The poisonous foods when strained in this bag became usable as food or medicine lager. Today we head back to Cairns.
